Artera is an early-stage team out of Space City, designing a constellation of autonomous agriculture pods — one Earth-analogue pod so far. Growing food in deep space is an agronomy problem wrapped in a spacecraft problem.

    Founder · Mission architect

    Designs the spacecraft and the mission it flies: the layout that holds and supports the growth chamber alongside propulsion, power, controls, and navigation; and the trajectory and attitude that meet the economic and technical requirements.

  2. Nicholas Romero

    Founder · Business & platform

    Runs the business and builds the platform underneath it: funding, partnerships, and the case a customer has to believe on one side; the growing system, its instrumentation, and the software that has to turn a harvest into a product on the other.

  1. Space crop production scientist

    Controlled-environment growing

    Own the grow and what it proves: nutrient chemistry, root-zone media, light as a photon budget, and the call on which result from a bench transfers to orbit and which does not.

  2. Payload engineer

    Flight qualification

    Take the pod from a bench that works to hardware that survives the ride: interfaces with a launch integrator, vibration and thermal vacuum, materials, and the safety package.

  3. Robotics & mechanisms engineer

    Root zone, fluids & control

    Solve water without gravity, then automate the hands that tend the crop: dosing, containment and recovery, robotic harvest and handling, and the sensors, firmware, and control law under all of it.
